Abstract This paper investigates CO 2 intensity changes from energy use in the Nigerian economy for a period of 39 years (1981-2019) using Logarithmic Mean weight Divisia Index (LMDI). The respective contribution and impacts different factors such as activity effects, conversion efficiency, energy, fuel mix, among others on aggregate carbon emission has been examined bearing mind poor electricity supply experienced over years. investigation was undertaken four periods outcomes revealed that have increased to some extent. analysis shows emissions decreased most between 1981 1989 result decrease substitution/fuel mix changes.
